What do we mean by "product"?

When we say "product," we're talking about something which runs on or makes part of a system that uses microchips. Usability and human factors research can be conducted on any type of object that people interact with, but we focus on computer-based systems and personal electronics that incorporate software programming. Some examples of products we might talk about in the context of our services:
  • websites (all kinds)
  • process control systems
  • wireless phones
  • "shrink-wrapped" applications for home and small-business users
  • operating systems
  • customized ERP and CRM applications
  • software for palm-top computing devices
  • fax machines
  • telecommunications software
As microchips become integral parts of more and more products, an ever-increasing number of devices and software applications will benefit from testing and development with a structured, user-centered approach.
